:megusta:

Podiam fazer depois uns carros mais simples e leves, com motores mais fracos e autonomia maior.

Pra cidade, seria show. Tipo um Fiesta com 600km de autonomia. Uns 120hp e 30kgfm

Electric cars for all government fleets
Whitehall departments and their agencies to introduce plug-in vehicles.

Government is set to lead by example as all of its car fleets are provided with funding to introduce plug-in cars and vans, Transport Minister Baroness Kramer announced today (17 July 2014).

The £5 million ultra low emission vehicle (ULEV) readiness project is just the first step in plans to make electric cars and other plug-in vehicles commonplace in government fleets.

It will allow every central government fleet to review its arrangements and consider how greener vehicles can be used. Over 150 plug-in vehicles will be added to government fleets in the first wave of the scheme.

The Government Car Service, which provides cars for ministers, will lead the way, with its review already underway and plans to order the first electric cars in the autumn.

Baroness Kramer was joined at the launch of the scheme by Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander and Minister of State for Cabinet Office Oliver Letwin.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, said:

I am delighted the Government Car Service is leading the move to electric vehicles and I will be one of the first in line to use one. This is the right thing to do, with much lower running costs and close to zero emissions, these vehicles will save the taxpayer money and be much greener.

We are also investing significantly in ultra-low emission vehicles which will help ensure they play an important role in the UK economy as well as the environment.

Baroness Kramer said:

Government must lead by example. Today’s investment will see government switching a significant number of plug-in cars and vans into our fleets and leading the electric charge.

The scheme will be expanded in the autumn to allow the wider public sector including councils, police forces and the NHS, to introduce more plug-in vehicles. This is expected to add approximately a further 135 plug-in vehicles to these fleets.

In both phases, chargepoints will also be installed to provide infrastructure support for the new cars and vans.

Cars and vans will be recommended on a like-for-like basis and the reviews will consider the whole life cost of the vehicles to ensure that each replacement makes economic sense.

ULEVs will be a major area of future growth for the hugely successful UK automotive sector, worth over £11 billion to the economy.

The £5 million scheme for getting ULEVs into government fleets is in addition to the support for the Go Ultra Low campaign being delivered in partnership with vehicle manufacturers and £500 million announced by the Deputy Prime Minister in April 2014 which includes:

at least £200 million to continue the Plug In Car Grant, cutting up to £5000 off the price of a new ULEV car
£100 million for research and development
£35 million cities scheme
£20 million to encourage ULEV taxis
£30 million to boost the low emission bus market
£32 million for more chargepoints

It is also expected to allow fleets to introduce over 150 plug-in vehicles.

Tesla Earnings Preview: As Panasonic Confirms Gigafactory Deal, Here's What To Watch For

Panasonic confirmed this morning what you could have read here Tuesday: It is partnering with Tesla on the $5 billion battery Gigafactory is official. While the two companies still aren’t saying where the facility will be located, they did issue a joint press release that outlines the breakdown of who will be responsible for what. As expected, the Gigafactory will be a Tesla-managed facility at which Panasonic will build the battery cells and Tesla will ultimately assemble those into packs. This is much as things work today, with the big change being that it will all happen under one roof.

Imagem
Tesla wowed the crowd last summer with a demo of a swappable battery, but little has been heard about the initiative since.

The wording of the press release suggests many details remain to be worked out, including how much Panasonic will be investing. Earlier reports, however, suggested a sum on the order of $200-300 million initially, which is expected to grow over time to perhaps $1 billion. In addition to building batteries at the new plant, Panasonic will continue to make them elsewhere and deliver them to the Gigafactory for assembly. The reason is that even the massive facility will only be able to produce about 70% of the cells needed for all the packs Tesla hopes to build — enough for 500,000 cars annually by 2020. It’s likely the company will have more to say about all this when it reports earnings after the closing bell today. Check back here for complete coverage. In addition to Gigafactory news, here’s what else Wall Street will be watching for:

Deliveries, now and next quarter. Tesla has a stated goal of delivering 35,000 vehicles in 2014. It started off the year with 6,457 in the first quarter, which was slightly ahead of its target. Guidance for the current quarter was 7,500 deliveries, with significantly higher production of 8,500-9,000. The company has been trying to push production in order to get more cars into Europe and Asia, where the longer delivery pipeline isn’t quite full yet. If Tesla managed the 9,000 figure that would be nearly 20% higher than Q1 and would be an especially bullish sign.

One positive indicator is that the company recently shut down production entirely to gear up for the forthcoming Model X as well as prep for higher volumes of 1,000 vehicles per week by year end. The timing was likely planned well in advance and is set to end just a few days from now. Tesla choosing to have that overlap with a quarterly earnings call suggests the company is prepared to announce production is on track to meet previously stated goals. Either way, the results and upcoming forecast will be the most closely watched numbers for the quarter.

Gross margin progress continues? Tesla is already past last year’s gross margin goal of 25% and is targeting 28% for 2014. As with 2013, the company expects progress to occur in a step-wise fashion each quarter. CEO Elon Musk has talked in the past how suppliers didn’t really take Tesla seriously early on, but the company has now produced tens of thousands of cars and has shown few signs of letting up. Improved supplier terms and continued progress on labor efficiency should show up in better gross margins.

Demand by region, especially from China. Tesla has insisted that it’s current constraint is the company’s inability to produce more vehicles, not a lack of demand for them. To that end, the decision to open up sales in China and across Europe means fewer vehicles can be sold in the U.S. — assuming the demand exists elsewhere. The company has been somewhat vague at times about precisely how many vehicles are selling where (it’s the only automaker of any size that won’t report monthly U.S. sales, for example). U.S. deliveries overall are likely to be lower in 2014 than 2013 because, Tesla has suggested, there’ll be too many cars sent overseas. Any softness in Asia or Europe will be seen as a sign of weakness; strength there is a strong positive.

One more thing? Musk has become an expert at tossing out some seemingly offhanded thought only to have it become clear he’s talking about some major initiative the company is working on. In the past, those remarks have presaged the Supercharger network (now at 150+ worldwide, including 103 in North America alone), the company’s financing program, and more. Tesla is now more than half a year behind on its promised battery-swap stations in California, despite a splashy demo last summer. But it may have its plate full with the Model X, which is due in less than 12 months after being substantially delayed. Whether Musk has anything new — including perhaps some hints about the forthcoming $35,000 Model 3, for which the Gigafactory’s batteries are so essential — we’ll find out later today.

The Tesla Model S is a legit sports sedan. Smooth, fast, good looking, and fun to drive. It has the whole combination. But thanks to the lack of a transmission and how it puts power down, it can fool a dyno into thinking it has 2,000 pound feet of torque. Damn.

While the torque was wild, the horsepower was basically flat, showing that it has 436. Tesla says the P85 S has 415 horsepower, so the figure is close. Driveline loss appears to be basically non-existent.
