Mercedes-Benz C160 Entry-Level Version of the C-Class

If you check out the configurators of Mercedes-Benz right now, you’ll find out that the C-Class range kicks off with the C180 model, and that’s the cheapest one you can get. That’s all about to change with the introduction of the new C160 version that is slated to be available starting Tuesday.
According to the original source, the car will be using a 4-cylinder 1.6-liter turbocharged engine developing 129 HP and around 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque even though the numbers haven’t been confirmed yet. As expected, since this is a base model, it will only be available with the 6-speed manual gearbox, the 7-speed DCT one being left out for now.
The engine is not new and has been used on other models for quite some time now, in different power guises. It’s the same with the unit on the C180 as well, only with a different power output.
Prices for the C160 will start at €31,683 for the Sedan and will go up to €33,349 for the T-Model or estate version. By comparison, this entry-level car will go up against similar offerings from BMW and Audi.
While Audi’s A4 is getting a bit too old for this contest, BMW’s 3 Series will get a facelift this year that might see the retirement of their 1.6-liter 4-cylinder powerplant.
In Europe, the 3 Series is still available with the N13 engine that was developed in collaboration with PSA. The 316i uses it, having 136 HP and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal and a starting price of €29,650 in Sedan guise and €31,400 for the Touring model.
Ordering books for the new Mercedes-Benz will be open starting tomorrow, and you should expect to have your car delivered this summer, in July at the earliest.
