Tesla com invejinha das Ferraris e Lambos
Tesla Model S catches fire near Seattle, no injuries reported

For the record, there were 187,500 "highway vehicle fires" in the US in 2011 (the last year for which data is available), according to the National Fire Prevention Association. But there was a fire yesterday that is starting to catch some attention, and we're pretty sure you all know why. Electric vehicle fires – whether they be in China or the US, started while moving or stopped – often become comment fodder, even when we learn after the fact that the electric part of the powertrain has nothing to do with with the blaze.
In any case, a Tesla Model S went up in flame yesterday after hitting something, and the company stock has already dropped $12.05, ending the day at $180.95. We don't know many details, but Yahoo Autos says it happened outside Seattle, WA. We also don't know what, exactly, caused the fire, but you can see in the picture above that it was limited to the frunk (that'd be the front trunk, of course) area. Tesla offered AutoblogGreen a statement on the matter:
Yesterday, a Model S collided with a large metallic object in the middle of the road, causing significant damage to the vehicle. The car's alert system signaled a problem and instructed the driver to pull over safely, which he did. No one was injured, and the sole occupant had sufficient time to exit the vehicle safely and call the authorities. Subsequently, a fire caused by the substantial damage sustained during the collision was contained to the front of the vehicle thanks to the design and construction of the vehicle and battery pack. All indications are that the fire never entered the interior cabin of the car. It was extinguished on-site by the fire department.

Tesla says Model S fire started in battery pack; share prices falling
Yesterday's fire that engulfed a Tesla Model S, the first blaze involving the critically acclaimed electric sedan, was caused when a piece of road debris impacted the front of the car, damaging the battery pack and starting a fire, according to an email sent to AutoblogGreen by Tesla. Now, The New York Times has learned that the fire was indeed caused by debris that made "a direct impact ... to one of the 16 modules within the Model S battery pack," according to Tesla spokesperson Elizabeth Jarvis-Shean.
Despite the blaze, Tesla maintains that the battery packs did their job by isolating the fire, with Jarvis-Shean saying, "Because each module within the battery pack is, by design, isolated by fire barriers to limit any potential damage, the fire in the battery pack was contained to a small section in the front of the vehicle."
The nature of the fire, though, seemed to catch the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority off guard. The department's report, which was obtained by the International Business Times and partially published on Jalopnik, claims that water used to put out the blaze seemed to intensify the fire, forcing the firefighters to use a dry chemical. Later, they found the battery pack still burning inside the front end. The report claims firefighters, "had to puncture multiple holes in the pack to apply water to the burning material in the battery," and also had to cut into the frame to douse the burning pack.
Tesla's stock prices fell shortly after the story broke yesterday, ending the day with a $12.05-drop in share prices as markets closed. Tesla's shares have lost a further $11.64 as of this writing, and are down around six percentage points since trading opened this morning. We'll stay with this story as more information becomes available.

The Name Is Musk, Elon Musk: Tesla CEO Purchases James Bond Submarine Car From 'The Spy Who Loved Me'
It turns out that Elon Musk was the mysterious buyer who spent $920,167 for James Bond’s car from the 1977 film “The Spy Who Loved Me.” Now the real question is what will the Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) CEO, known for his innovative electric cars, rocket parts, Hyperloop and hands-free engineering system, do with a sports car-turned-submarine movie prop?
Musk plans to use his resources to turn the James Bond prop into an actual car that can morph into a real submarine. In its current state, the vehicle, which is modeled after a Lotus Espirit, doesn’t even have wheels. It’s really just a car-shaped sub, but one that fills up with water when submerged.

“I was disappointed to learn that it can’t actually transform,” Musk told CNN Money. “What I’m going to do is upgrade it with a Tesla electric powertrain and try to make it transform for real.”
The car was discovered in a neglected Long Island storage locker that was purchased for less than $100. The new owner eventually had the vehicle authenticated by the Ian Fleming Foundation as not only being one of the models used in the film, but the only model that was actually capable of submerging.

This won’t be the first time Musk has worked off of a Lotus design. The design of the original Tesla electric car was based on a Lotus Elise.
For reference, or just for some nostalgic fun, here’s the clip from “The Spy Who Loved Me.” Skip ahead to around the 3:30 mark to witness the ground-to-see transformation.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk: Fuel cells are 'so bullsh*t'

Elon Musk is unafraid to speak his mind. Whether he's talking about other players in the electric vehicle space or sub-par reporting from The New York Times, this is a man with few filters. To further illustrate this point we need look no further than yesterday's address to an enthusiast crowd at a Tesla service center in Germany.
"Oh god, a fuel cell is so bullsh*t. Hydrogen is suitable for the upper stage of rockets, but not for cars." - Elon Musk
Speaking about the need for speed in getting out the word about the viability of electric cars and the importance of sustainable transport, Musk said people need to see that EVs are the next step, instead of just thinking we can burn hydrocarbons until they're all gone. And don't get him started on people who convince themselves that fuel cells are a solution. "Oh god, a fuel cell is so bullsh*t", Musk said, before going on a short tangent illustrating his reasons.
After commenting that the only reason some automakers are pursuing hydrogen technology is for marketing purposes, that lithium batteries are superior mass and volume-wise for a given range, and that fuel cells are too expensive, Musk capped it all off with the safety issue. "Hydrogen is quite a dangerous gas. you know, it's suitable for the upper stage of rockets, but not for cars," he said.
Of course, the Tesla CEO wasn't in the Bundesrepublik Deutschland just to rag on hydrogen fuel cells. In fact, in light of recent low sales figures in that country, this visit was important to show the company's commitment to that market and in this respect Musk did not disappoint, letting loose a number of cats from the idiomatic bag.
Musk also announced an Autobahn-tuning package.
With sales ambitions stretching to 200-300 cars per week by the end of 2014, Musk announced that he was sending over his top engineering team to develop an Autobahn-tuning package that would then be freely offered to existing and future Model S owners. He did not mention exactly what this would entail, but did say it would offer improved high-speed handling. We hope it might also allow for repeated high-speed accelerations without artificial power limiting, as can happen now.
With higher speeds comes reduced range, so Musk assured the audience that the German Supercharger network, now breaking ground on the first six installations, would be fully installed by the end of 2014. Consisting of between 40 and 50 stations, these stations will allow the entire German population to be within reach of a quick-charge and not have to drive more than 200 kilometers (124 miles) to get to the next. The power from the electron pumps would also be increased to 135 kW – up from today's 120 kW – with further increases in output expected in the future. Other infrastructure improvements include a large investment in Tesla service center locations. The stated goal, by the end of next year, is to have 80 percent of the population within 100 km (62 miles) of a service facility. More details should be released Thursday.
To hear Musk make these pronouncements (and more), scroll below for a video of the proceedings. Feel free to skip ahead to the 16:10-minute mark, though, unless you have excellent German comprehension skills and would like to listen to a summary by a distinguished gentleman seated beside a fine looking bottle of virgin oak whiskey. And if you just want to get to the fuel cell BS line, it comes at around 29:17. Cheers!

Tesla Model S sales in Germany lag behind Leaf, Zoe, Smart ED

In some European countries – Iceland and Norway – the Tesla Model S is doing quite well. In others, according to the International Business Times, early indications are that interest in the world's best-selling luxury EV are a bit muted.
The numbers from IBT indicate that Tesla's sales in Norway hit 801 in the first two months of availability. In Holland, Denmark and Germany it was just 531 - for all three. There were 348 sold in Holland and 85 in Denmark those first two months.
That leaves 98 sold in Germany in those two months, quite a ways behind the country's best-selling EVs. The Smart ED sold 146 units in Germany just in September, and even the Renault Zoe and the Nissan Leaf outsold the Model S that month. Those two EVs sold 57 and 55 units, respectively.
All this is despite the fact that Germany's market is much bigger than Norway's (IBT says it's bigger than all three of the other countries, combined). We're pretty sure the high interest in Norway is due to that country's big governmental support for EVs and the low sales outside of Norway could be due to the sluggish European automarket overall. We're not sure why, but it's still something to pay attention to when Tesla releases its third-quarter quarterly earnings report in two weeks, on November 5.

Elon Musk Says A Full Android Emulator And Chrome Browser Could Be Coming To The Tesla Model S

The Tesla line of electric vehicles are marvels of modern transportation technology, but they also come with a healthy does of consumer tech. Tesla's Model S comes with an advanced 17-inch touchscreen dashboard system running on Linux. When CEO Elon Musk was asked recently if app developers would get to play in the Tesla ecosystem, he had a surprising response. Apparently, the future of Tesla could include Android.
Tesla's first order of business is to finish the localization work that will make the software functional around the world, but after that he sees the car's browser being moved to Chrome. Knowing that Android development is booming, the company is considering ways to port Android apps to the car on Linux using the Qt application framework. Another more alluring possibility is that a full Android emulator could be built into the Model S allowing Android apps to be run with little to no modification.
As for a timeline, Musk said developers could be turned loose on the Model S by late 2014. Maybe it would be sooner, but Musk is busy making hovering science-fictional rockets half of the time.
