Recalls? What Recalls? GM's June Sales Best Since 2007

[font=Verdana]Demonstrating how little Americans care about GM’s recall calamity, the company’s June sales figures were the largest since 2007. GM dealers delivered 267,461 vehicles to Americans last month. That is up one percent compared to a year ago.[/font]

[font=Verdana]However, there were two fewer selling days in June 2013. Adjusting for that discrepancy, GM’s sales were up nine percent.[/font]

[font=Verdana]Furthermore, when compiled, the first six months of 2014 brought GM’s best sales period since 2008 – the year before the[/font] [font=Verdana]company’s bankruptcy[/font] [font=Verdana]. The company had rebuilt so much goodwill since its Chapter 11 restructuring that some analysts were concerned the recalls could affect sales.[/font]

[font=Verdana]The automaker has recalled 25 million vehicles this year. Just yesterday, we published a[/font] [font=Verdana]story[/font] [font=Verdana]about the American Giant recalling another 7.6 million vehicles. It also increased the tally of deaths and injuries, by three and eight, respectively. For those who are keeping count, that is 16 total deaths and 62 total injuries.[/font]

[font=Verdana]It is startling that the corporation’s sales were bulletproof through a public relations crisis. On the other hand, the people need their Cadillac Escalades(up 57%), Buick Encores(up 82%), and GMC Yukons(up 120%).[/font]

[font=Verdana]We shall see if GM’s momentum slows in the second half of the year, as the company remains in the news for all of the wrong reasons.[/font]

A Ford anunciou nesta sexta-feira (4) que convocou proprietários do Fiesta Rocam 2013/2014, hatch e sedã, fabricados de 1º de outubro de 2012 a 10 de junho de 2014 (chassis entre 8409918 a 8119544), a procurarem uma concessionária para substituição da válvula e do tubo de hidrovácuo do sistema de freios.

São 176.341 unidades envolvidas no problema.

A marca reitera que, além da troca da válvula e do tubo, dois novos clipes de fixação precisam ser instalados para evitar outros problemas futuros.

A possibilidade de ruptura da válvula do sistema de freio, a falha detectada, pode anular a assistência do hidrováculo (servo freio). Embora não haja risco de perda total da capacidade de frenagem do veículo, seria necessário um esforço adicional do motorista no acionamento do pedal.

Subaru recalling 660k vehicles in some states for possible brake line corrosion



Subaru is recalling 660,238 vehicles located in 20 US states that use salt on their roads. It's possible that salty water could splash onto the rear brake lines, and it could eventually cause corrosion and potentially perforation, leading to a fluid leak.

The recall covers the 2005-2009 Outback and Legacy, 2008-2011 Impreza, 2008-2014 WRX and STI and 2009-2013 Forester. However, only vehicles currently or formerly registered in the following snowy US states or districts are covered: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. The company previously recalled the 2005-2009 Legacy and Outback to repair this problem, and now it's added the additional models, plus any of the original cars it missed the first time.

According to the defect notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Subaru found a total of 24 cases of corrosion in US leading up to the recall. There was a single case of actual brake line perforation, but it happened in Switzerland, according to the document. The company believes that it would take seven or more seasons of winter driving on salty roads before any corroding would begin.

To fix things, Subaru will inspect all of the affected vehicles to check for a fluid leak. All cars will receive a coating of anti-corrosion wax around the potentially affected area. If there is a leak, then the lines will be replaced and will still get the wax coating. The automaker will begin contacting owners soon, but company spokesperson Michael McHale also tells Autoblog that "customers can come in at their convenience." Graco recalls another 1.9M car seats, now largest in history [w/video]

After months of disputing a safety problem even existed, Graco has agreed to recall 1.9 million children's car seats affected by defective buckles.

Officials with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had urged Graco to include these seats in earlier recalls of 4.2 million seats, which contained a potentially deadly defect with buckles that were difficult or impossible to unlatch. Graco had resisted until today, saying the remaining seats were subjected to "substantially different use conditions."

Collectively, the 6.1 million seats recalled over the latch problem mark the largest recall of children's car seats in history.

"After thorough analysis, we collectively reached a final agreement with NHTSA that is in the best interest of our consumers and underscores our shared commitment to child passenger safety," said Ashley Mowrey, a spokesperson for Newell Rubbermaid, Graco's parent company. A NHTSA spokesperson did not immediately have a comment on Tuesday's resolution.

Earlier, Graco had maintained the difficulty involved in unbuckling the car seats was not mechanical in nature, but a customer "perception" and "frustration" issue. NHTSA disagreed, citing more than 6,100 consumer complaints reviewed by the agency. Some customers resorted to calling 911 or cutting the car-seat straps to free children from the seats.

Graco said Tuesday it knew of no injuries associated with the problem. But the company was a named defendant in a wrongful death lawsuit filed in California, in which two-year-old Leiana Ramirez died in a car fire in 2011. Her mother and bystanders could not unlatch her from her car seat.

One witness, Salvador Martinez, suffered burns on his hands and arms while trying to remove the girl from the seat where she was trapped, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Documents filed in March detail Graco's resistance to the recall. Two-and-a-half years after Ramirez's death, Sean Beckstrom, Graco's vice president of legal affairs, wrote that, "in an emergency situation an adult is far more likely to remove the entire car seat from the vehicle rather than unlatch the car seat's buckle and remove the infant from the car seat."

Graco redesigned the affected car-seat buckles, and customers will receive a replacement buckle kit in the mail. Parents and caregivers can check and see if their car seats are included in the recall by looking at specific models affected at GracoBuckleRecall.com.

The company said it will also provide free buckles to customers who have infant car seats not included in the recall, but prefer the redesigned buckle. In the meantime, Graco says the seats are safe to use until the replacement buckles are installed (see video below).

NHTSA disagrees. In an earlier statement, the agency warned parents to use "an alternative car seat for transporting children until their Graco car seat is fixed."

VW convoca recall e suspende vendas do Golf na América do Norte



A Volkswagen está enfrentando problemas envolvendo o sistema de direção do Golf e do GTI na América do Norte. Conforme relatado pela imprensa local, a marca emitiu nesta semana uma nota às concessionárias e ordenou que as vendas dos modelos nos Estados Unidos e no Canadá fossem suspensas. Ao mesmo tempo, um recall foi anunciado no intuito de resolver o problema que, conforme relatado pela própria marca, decorre de uma falha identificada no processo de produção.

Em nota, a Volkswagen explica que as barras estabilizadoras dianteiras foram montadas de forma incorreta e receberam menos torção que o necessário para se manterem presas de forma segura. Assim, há risco de o componente se soltar e comprometer a segurança dos ocupantes. Em casos extremos, pode haver ruídos elevados e dificuldades para girar o volante. O problema afeta 2.001 exemplares vendidos nos EUA e 446 comercializados no Canadá, além de 705 e 108 modelos que estão em estoque, respectivamente, nos dois países.

A maior parte dos modelos envolvidos corresponde ao GTI, já que as demais configurações só serão vendidas a partir de agosto. A Volkswagen do Brasil não se pronunciou sobre o assunto, mas a falha não deve afetar as unidades vendidas por aqui. O Golf americano é fabricado no México e os exemplares vendidos no mercado brasileiro são produzidos na Alemanha.

Dodge and Jeep recalling 895k SUVs for possibility of headliner fires



Dodge and Jeep are announcing recalls of a total of 895,000 Durango and Grand Cherokee models worldwide from the 2011 through 2014 model years. There's a possibility that the wiring in the sun visor can short circuit and cause a fire. It specifically affects vehicles built between January 5, 2010, and December 11, 2013, and there are approximately 651,000 of them in the US, 45,700 in Canada, 23,000 in Mexico and 175,000 outside of North America.

Screws that fasten the sunvisor to the headliner may pierce wires in the visor, if the part has been removed or serviced, potentially causing a fire risk. If the wires short circuit, they could overheat and potentially combust. The automakers report three injuries caused by this defect, and according to the investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "there may be a total of 52 unique fire incidents."

To fix the problem, Dodge and Jeep will inspect the vehicles for suspect wiring, and all of the models, whether damaged or not, will get a new sun visor spacer with a wire guide to stop the possibility of short circuits. According to the automakers' announcement, "this condition is not present in vehicles which have not had the headliner or vanity mirror serviced." They will notify affected owners, and repairs will begin in August.

NHTSA began its investigation into the potential problems last year. It initially started with only the Grand Cherokee, but the Dodge Durango was added later as well because it uses the same headliner assembly. Ford faz recall de 101 mil sedãs e utilitários nos EUA

Problema com semieixo direito é uma das falhas de segurança que podem surgir nos veículos

A Ford Motors anunciou nesta terça-feira uma série de recalls que abrange 101 mil veículos. Os reparos necessários são decorrentes de defeitos de segurança.

O maior dos recalls inclui 92 mil veículos sedã e utilitários esportivos na América do Norte, que podem apresentar problema em um semieixo do lado direito, instalado incorretamente. Segundo a Ford, o semieixo pode sair do lugar causando movimento inesperado do veículo. Esta convocação inclui os modelos Ford Taurus (fabricados em 2013 e 2014), Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS e Lincoln MKT (fabricação em 2012 e 2014) e Ford Edge e Lincoln MKX SUV (2014).

A Ford também está fazendo uma convocação de 2,1 mil veículos Ford Escape modelo 2014 para solucionar problemas com o teto de vidro panorâmico. São convocados ainda cerca de 200 carros compactos Ford Fiesta 2014 para reparar um problema com vazamento do tanque de combustível. Nenhum caso de acidente ou lesão foi atribuído a qualquer um dos veículos que integram or recall.
