
Although we're not overly impressed with Lotus' attempt at riddle teasers, Ford has just released a marketing campaign that is a master stroke. Of course there's nothing remarkable about pairing a beautiful woman with a car, which is essentially what Ford has done here, but it's the way they have done it that is interesting.
Not only has Ford taken out a full page ad in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition that shows the Ford Mustang, but they've included their own curvaceous swimsuit model - but with her face just out of frame. In the ad there is a caption which says, "Swimsuit model Dalena Henriques." After doing a web search for her name, dalenahenriques.com is listed as the top result.
So far it sounds like a mediocre ploy to pique your curiosity. But when you arrive at her site, you're shown more of the same - a big gallery page with 16 photos of Dalena Henriques, all of which show her face just out of frame. Your curiosity is never satisfied and you're forced to make sense of it. It is at this moment you notice that bright colored Mustang prominently featured in every photo.
See what happened? They conned you into believing the swimsuit model was real, only to realize it was never about the model, but the car.
